Social work is a professional and academic discipline that seeks to improve the quality of life and subjective well-being of individuals, families, couples, groups, and communities through research, policy, community organizing, direct practice, crisis intervention, and teaching for the benefit of those affected by social disadvantages such as poverty, mental and physical illness or disability, and social injustice, including violations of their civil liberties and human rights. The profession is dedicated to social justice and the well-being of oppressed and marginalized individuals and communities.
It is a personally rewarding career for those who have an interest in working with people, and in addressing social and community issues and problems. Social worker gets to be physically involved with the outside world and gets to help others and make a difference in other peoples lives. and being a social workers you are not always stuck in a desk type job but long hours involved frustrations regarding the law against abuse, incest, rape, etc., have to see some pretty difficult things in this career like violence.
